Gearbox Surprises Fans With Free Duke Nukem Content

So, I bought the Game of the Year Edition of Gearbox's excellent game, Borderlands,  some time ago and have been getting these e-mails about Duke Nukem First access for a while, thanks to a little voucher the game came with. So far they all have just been news, delivered first to the members of that little group of fans and then quickly dispersed through the normal Twitter and Facebook channels we have all come to know. No big deal, no big loss if you're not part of it, and nothing all too special thanks to how fast "exclusive" news bits travel across the internet. It gets around like a hungry, drunk whore let loose in a cock factory.

Well, now Gearbox has gone and done something really cool. Free DLC multiplayer content for all of us that are part of the first access membership! Check out the text from the e-mail I received below.
Hello First Access Member,
As the launch date for Duke Nukem Forever approaches, we would like to offer a heartfelt thanks to you, the true believers who have already placed your bet on Duke with your pre-order, or Borderlands Game of the Year purchase. As a sign of our appreciation, Gearbox Software and 2K Games are thrilled to present every First Access Club member who has registered as of today the very first Duke Nukem Forever multiplayer downloadable add-on for free!* Surprise! Thank you again for all of your support. We're almost there.
Hail to the King, Baby!

Mortal Kombat Review - A Bloody Good Time

My time with Mortal Kombat has been nothing short of ass-kickingly awesome. From top to bottom, this is the fighting game Mortal Kombat fans have been waiting on since the game franchises' disastrous foray into 3D fighters. The game's story mode takes the Mortal Kombat story back it's roots. The game begins with the defeat of Earth Realms mightiest warriors and protectors at the hand of the Out world emperor. From there they do a clever Star Trek style reboot and mess with the space time continuum.

This reboot of Mortal Kombat includes a fairly full roster of MK alumni. It returns to the tournament from MK1, but there are some new faces to this tournament. Fans of the series will surely recognize cyborg characters Sektor and Cyrax, but will they recognize them as humans before their transformation? Seeing such well known characters in the first tournament, and before their final incarnations was a real treat. I've enjoyed my time with the story mode significantly, but nothing compares to the old school arcade mode. Choosing your favorite character and testing your might against the cpu opponents, a friend or even a stranger online is just as rewarding as it ever was.

I've never been a big fan of fighters, but for a few simple reasons Mortal Kombat has always been one of my favorite gaming franchises. Top to bottom, MK is its own game. There have been many copies and clones, but none ever so popular. The game has regained its sense of self. The combat is just as tight and over the top as ever. I worked my way through every character on the roster and although I have my favorites, I didn't find one that I couldn't at least play competently after a few rounds. Button mashing is no where near as rewarding as carefully timed attacks and parries, but it is possible for casual fighters.

Aliens Vs. Predator: Hunter Edition Announced For US

What is SEGA trying to do to me? Do I even want this game, really? I don't know. I've been burned by both franchises in games before, but they did put out a couple of good AVP games before the movies came out. Now they are throwing in a bunch of goodies as special bonuses for paying extra to get the collectors editions and they made me want to spend the damn money. Once you throw in a face-hugger I want it.

Who knows how much this damn thing is going to wind up costing, but the fact that it comes with a baby alien means it will be worth whatever price they put on it. Here is the full rundown of what comes in the package, courtesy of the SEGA blog:
Hunter Edition confirmed for US consumers! There, I can finally say it; the Hunter Edition which was announced fairly recently from our European friends is now 100% confirmed in the US with an added bonus – a hardcover graphic novel from Dark Horse Comics featuring the original Aliens vs Predator comic! Don’t worry, all the other goodies are still included, such as the four Multiplayer maps (before they release to the general public), a fully articulated and disturbingly creepy Facehugger model, Weyland Yutani sleeve badge, and a 3D lenticular postcard. To sweeten the deal, if you pre-order you can pick up some exclusive skins for all three species in multiplayer.
Yeah, I want this one bad. Check out a larger image of the packaging below the jump.

Win A Free Copy Of Revenge of the Wounded Dragons For PS3

What would you do to someone if they killed your grandfather and kidnapped your sister? That's what I want to know. Sure, plotting a kung-fu laden revenge is nice and all, but not everyone knows how to execute a roundhouse kick with ease. I used to, but I'm too fat for that shit now.

So, to win a free download code for this kung-fu crazy PS3 game, I want you to log-in and comment below with what you would do to someone, in graphic and nasty detail, who would cross you and your family in such a messed up way. My favorite answer will get the tasty download code and will be able to enjoy beating the hell out of nasty Asian guys who do those bad things in the video game world. Be creative, funny, gory, and by all means, entertaining. Get your comment in below before midnight EST on Monday Dec 14th night/Tuesday Dec. 15th morning , and do us a favor and use your Facebook, OpenID, Twitter, or any other log-in that is supported by our comments, just to make communicating with you that much easier.

Check out the launch trailer for the game below, that way you know what you're getting yourself into.

Revenge Of The Wounded Dragons Review - PS3

It has been a long time since I've fired up my TurboGrafx-16 (or PC Engine for those of you outside of North America) and played China Warrior or Ninja Spirit. I pretty much forgot that games of that sort even existed, seeing as the most popular franchise of that ilk, Double Dragon, has been dead since the 90s. Ok, so there was a Gameboy Advance game that came out 6 years ago, but much like a dwarf tax attorney, it was short and boring. Here we are, about to bring in 2010, and I'm here writing about a game that is nothing if not pure nostalgia.

Revenge of the Wounded Dragons is the story of two brothers out to save their kidnapped sister and revenge the death of their grandfather. Yes, this story has been told more times than Jenna Jameson has had to clear her throat, but unlike her, it never gets old. The classic trope is used here as the simple device to get going, but told in some pretty cool motion-comic cut-scenes. Think of a more staccato and less animated version of the Anime in Kill Bill and you get the idea. They also throw in the cheesy 70s music in for the full effect, but thankfully, if you tire of that, this game lets you use your own custom soundtrack. Man, why can't more games do this?

Netflix Streaming On PS3 By Tomorrow!

Well, it is official. Netflix just sent out an e-mail with the following message in it:
Your free instant streaming disc for PS3 should arrive by Friday, Nov 06, 2009.

Meanwhile, add TV episodes & movies to your instant Queue now so you're ready to watch instantly when your instant streaming disc arrives.

-Your friends at Netflix
So there you go. By tomorrow, all of us who have registered for the free PS3 streaming disc for Netflix will be able to start doing what they already have been doing for a year on the Xbox 360, but without having to pay for a XBL Gold account to do it. Damn, that is pretty friggin' awesome.

I'm crossing my fingers that it is a Blu-ray disc, however. Why, you may ask? Well, my first run 60gig PS3 stopped playing anything other than Blu-ray discs recently. Cross your fingers and toes for me, will you?

Zombie Apocalypse Review - For Xbox 360 Or PS3

Z-Day is definitely coming soon. If it wasn't we wouldn't have all this training material released in succession. Last week Konami's Zombie Apocalypse was unleashed upon the Xbox Live Arcade and Playstation Network inhabitants. This week Zombieland  will be taking a bite out of the box office. In fact, this Saturday the dead will walk the Earth in Asbury Park, NJ. This is all too much at once. I'm going to sharpen my swords right now.

All right, I'm back. If you haven't touched the demo, seen screenshots, or heard anything about the game yet, Zombie Apocalypse is the dual-joystick shooter answer to the seemingly tireless obsession that mankind has for the walking dead. Played much like Robotron, Geometry Wars, or Smash TV, one stick controls where you are going and the other controls the direction your weapons do their damage. Once you wrap your fingers and head around that idea, there isn't much left to the imagination. Your main objective is to shoot, incinerate, blow up, and chainsaw the shit out of those zombies so that you can survive till the end of the level. Each level is considered a day, and there are 55 of them in total.
